Filters should be checked monthly during the heating season and the cooling season if you have air conditioning. To inspect the air filter, firstly, locate the air filter. Depending on the furnace design, it can either be located in the blower door unit itself or located between the blower and the return air duct. You may need a screwdriver to help pry open the access panel or blower door. Then, remove the filter from its support. It is important to find out which direction does the furnace filter go in?
The method and procedure of replacing the furnace filter is quite easy. The floor or area near the furnace has to be swept or vacuumed before replacing filter. At the lower front or side of filter, service panel can be located. After turning off the furnace, the panel door has to be popped open or pulled down. The next step involves locating the filter – a framed-mesh rectangular screen inserted near the intake-outtake blower. Then, slide the filter screen out. The brown and dusty buildup on the screen has to be checked. In case of having a reusable plastic-frame or metal frame-filter, cleaning will be done. Use a hose to rinse away the dust particles. In case of having a disposable cardboard filter, you have not to down the size of the filter and replace it with the new one.
